1. Identify one of the health issues, define it and use appropriate statistics to contextualise the
extent of the problem or prevalence of the condition in the UK.

2. Choose 2 issues from the following; diversity, culture, environment, physiology, psychology, socio
economics, to explore how the chosen lifestyle issue/condition may impact on the health of an
individual(only choose 2 issues to discuss).

3. Identify a current health promotion strategy/policy to prevent illness and improve quality of life
for individuals and society in relation to the chosen health issue.

4. Discuss the difference in emphasis within the role of the nurse applied in the 3 other fields of
nursing (that you are NOT currently studying) in assisting an individual to improve their quality of life
through promoting health and recovery (in relation with the chosen health issue).Briefly identify other
members of the inter-professional team who may have input into the care.

2. Explore how the chosen health issue may impact on the health of an individual and the wider society.
You mustonly consider 2 of the following issues to discuss;

To demonstrate a greater understanding of the 2 issues included explore why some of these impacts may occur,
e.g. why is cigarette smoke carcinogenic? What is in alcohol that causes liver disease? How may a person’s
culture impact on their lifestyle choices? In your discussion it would be expected that it is supported with
current journal articles, policies and recent research.(Approximately 650 words).
3. Identify a current health promotion strategy/policy to prevent illness and improve quality of life
for individuals and society in relation to the chosen health issue. Ensure that it is correctly named and
referenced. Briefly outline how the identified policy/strategy is intended to influence a healthier
lifestyle. Examples of policies/health promotion strategies that may be used are; Improving services for
people with epilepsy, Epilepsy, diagnosis, treatment and healthcare, (Epilepsy Action, 2011) UK physical
activity guidelines (DH, 2011), Reducing Demand, Restricting Supply, Building Recovery (HMGovernment,
2010).NB. Only one health promotion strategy or policy is required. (Approximately 350 words).

4. Discuss the difference in emphasis within the role of the nurse applied in the 3 other fields of
nursing (that you are NOT currently studying) in assisting an individual to improve their quality of life
through promoting health and recovery (in relation with the chosen health issue). Briefly identify other
members of the inter-professional team who may have input into the care, physiotherapist, NHS Health
Trainers, psychologist, social workers, dietician, GP, organisations (Diabetes UK etc.).
You need to discuss the 3 other fields of nursing that you are NOT currently studying (see table below).

Adult Field of Nursing

o Being non-judgemental when individuals continue to exhibit risky health behaviour but have the
cognitive ability to understand the consequences
o Not holding stereotypical views
o Understanding the patient’s perception of what being healthy means to them (maybe living with a long
term condition) and the impact on their recovery
o Assisting and encouraging patients to become more independent and preserve their dignity
