Paper Prompt/Question: Choose two issues (Social justification) purported to “justify” lynching and the strategies deployed by Ida B. Wells to counter these narratives. What issues did Wells highlight and what methods did she use to raise public consciousness about lynching in her pamphlet “A Red Record.”
Social justifications for lynching:
1.) Reconstruction Era: Blacks were lynched because whites feared “Negro Domination” and wanted to stay powerful in the government.
2.) Race Riots: Once the Civil War ended, there were many riots supposedly being planned by blacks.
